Uproot yourself! Yes I know the pot color is not ideal, but it’s all I had. I did cut a fair amount of heavy roots off. Here’s to hoping it survives. It was pretty flat on the bottom since I planted it on a paver. Also I cut around the roots last year so it would develop them closer to the...

    Shipping bonsai

So the only time I tried to ship a tree I got stopped at USPS where they told me I could not ship live plants. Also took it to UPS and the purchaser never received the tree so I do not know if the same thing happened? Has anyone ran into this problem where you need a nursery license to ship trees?

    Japanese blueberry

Still alive. This thing is so damn vigorous it’s hard to keep it restrained. Needs a proper pot but I’ve grown accustomed to the fact it will never be a high level tree.

    Judy's elmelm

End of season update. Cut circle around roots about two months ago. I chopped it shortly after my last post. Now the question is when I pot it up do I keep two or all three of the trunks I left in place. Looking forward to the next photo in the early spring/late winter in a pot

Yes, it appears there is no reason to do any type of movement until the very base/ first section is as thick as you want it. You just lose the taper and movement as it thickens in ground.

That has not been my experience with cork bark type elms. Tried several air layers on this and all failed. Cuttings in a misting bed of 1 year old wood, at 5 minute intervals produced roots

Update. Never did chop it. Thinking I may chop a little lower than I did.

Front becomes back. Sacrifice becomes permie?

Just thought I’d post an interesting subject,KJ, for discussion. Originally I was growing the left side long and strong to build a thick base for the permanent tree on the right that would stay shohin sized. Now I’m wondering if the left side shouldn’t be thought about being kept. In any case...

I’ll snap a photo but it hasn’t done much of anything being in a bonsai pot. Very slow growth
