BONSAI TECHNIQUES I &II Up for Auction

Last update (and thanks to those of you who checked them out): They've both been bid on and thus, will sell. They're still on their minimum bids, though, and still ripe for the taking for *way* under market. Exactly two days left to go! Just a heads-up that you can get in quietly and get one...

BONSAI TECHNIQUES I &II Up for Auction

Ahoy hoy, fellow bonsaiers. About a decade back I was lucky to acquire copies of both BONSAI TECHNIQUES I and II by John Naka. Both hardcover first editions. They're now up for auction on eBay. Book I is in very good condition, with some fading on the back cover. No slipcase, unfortunately...

    Played with another rmj today

Personally, I'd be so bummed if this became a cascade. I feel like it's lovely as a cascade but potentially unique as an upright.

    Help Identifying a Japanese (?) Bonsai Book/Magazine (???)

Thanks so much, William. Nice to know I was on the right track as per the cover/yearbook aspect of the album :)

    Help Identifying a Japanese (?) Bonsai Book/Magazine (???)

Received this from a well-known Northeastern bonsaist, George Gracey, via my mother. Have a feeling the slipcover is on upside-down, as the writing is on the wrong side of the book (obviously meant to be read right-to-left). Other than that, I've never seen anything like it here - beautiful...

    A Juniper Question

Vance: If you've never been and ever get down to Southern California, I'd suggest a trip by Chikugo En in Los Angeles (I have a feeling you're already readily familiar with Gary). His Itoigawa grafts may be exactly what you're looking for - super tight, super compact foliage. I have several...

    Rocky Mountain Juniper Progression

That's pretty excellent. RMJs are notoriously difficult to work with if you're not going for something sparse, IMO, but it looks like you'll get some nice foliage out of that. Well done.

    Thoughts on these junipers

I think you could easily give them both a shot - with those trunks, the price is just right and may be even on the low side. However, I'll say this: depending on what you want to do with them, the first one pictured looks better than the second one. A little hard to tell from the photos, as we...

    Please HELP!

Yep, sorry, it's a goner. As you will undoubtedly see mentioned many, many times around here if you hang about, junipers are excellent at APPEARING healthy long after they've started to die, and unfortunately, the process is irreversible. As was pointed out, they simply cannot survive indoors...

    Bonsai in San Jose?

    Wonderful - thank you!

    Bonsai in San Jose?

Only appears to be open two days a week...which I kind of love. Do you happen to know what his inventory is like? I see lots and lots and lots of "finished" trees, which is cool, but I'm more in the market for quality stock that I can work on. And thanks a ton for the heads-up!

    Bonsai in San Jose?

I'll be spending a good chunk of time up in San Jose over the next year and was wondering if anyone knows of any reliable sellers of either pre-bonsai stock or even nurseries that sell a fair amount of juniper stock? Google so far has been of little help outside of alerting me to bonsai-specific...

    Juniper woes...any help?

Could indeed be shedding, though the shedding on these types of trees (and I have many of them) tends to happen to inner branches when occurring naturally (as many have mentioned). So that seems an unlikely culprit to me unless there is something blocking any sunlight to this particular outer...

    Itoigawa and Kiyozuru

I have four trees that I bought from Gary, who is just an absolute prince of a guy. I love learning from him. Unfortunately, I lost two of them this year to spider mites while I was on vacation. It was absolutely crushing because they were beautiful trees and I was really happy with the work I'd...
