What is so special about the bonsai?

Hi All, Well, after reading the last batch of comments, my mum said I couldn't post on here any more because some of you were being so mean to me. My dad told her (and me) that if I was going to do something worthwhile with my life, I had to be able to handle people misquoting me and being...

What is so special about the bonsai?

milehigh_7, you have her spot on! I was talking with her over the last few days asking her how SHE thought I ought to approach my brother in all this. I guess I'd been somewhat badgering him before to "tell me what the bloomin' thing IS about the bonsai, will you?" -- like that (not in my...

What is so special about the bonsai?

Guess what? I talked to my brother about bringing his bonsai to visit me when he came over and he said he would! Yea!! :D We talked for maybe a half hour about some of the things all of you have been sharing with me on this forum and he got misty-eyed. He denied it and turned away but I...

What is so special about the bonsai?

Thank you for that book suggestion, milehigh_7. I'll ask my brother to get it for me. It looks like a very good read and I'm already looking forward to it. :D Yes, the British Empire had a way of scooping up some of the neatest stuff around the world and calling it their own. Tea is...

What is so special about the bonsai?

catfish, no offence taken with anything you've said. I might have been having a "bad hair moment" earlier. I do so very much appreciate your contribution to the understanding of this whole thing. I have, indeed, gained a great deal from it all. I hope my tidbits about my catawampus...

What is so special about the bonsai?

:D fraser67, it's only a quarter Irish but my mum always says that the Irish glow shines through even the heaviest layers of history (genetic history, in this case). :) Words for her (and by osmosis, for me) is a sacred art. Hmmmm ... sounds like the bonsai is for all of you. :) Thank you...

What is so special about the bonsai?

Thank you, Vance, for this penetrating insight: "The art of bonsai is most of all an illusion that only represents the feeling and sense of a full grown ancient tree. It is the personification of surrealism. " I reaaaally appreciate that transcendent layer of perception!

What is so special about the bonsai?

Thank you soooo much! So, I gather the book is more on the philosophical side. I'll check into it, for sure. You're right! His bonsai are amazing!! Hmmm ... I wonder if the bonsai bug just bit me .... ;)

Dan W., it also has to do with respect. Ones who respect the language (and themselves) enough will take the time and energy required to be gentle and proper with the language (no matter which language). Proofreading helps, too. My father subscribed to the "Newsweek" magazine for me a few...

What is so special about the bonsai?

Ah, catfish! Okay, here goes …. Firstly, I didn't say I've never been on the internet. I said I don't use the computer often and I don't have much experience with the internet. There's a big difference. Secondly, I didn't say I never leave the house. I said I don't go out much except to...

What is so special about the bonsai?

Thanks, mat, for that suggestion. :) What's it about? Is it a fiction novel? Is it a biography? Is it a nonfiction exploration of the subject? I went to the link but there's no description of the contents (just a recommendation that it's good but not what it actually is). Can you...

What is so special about the bonsai?

Thank you for the thoughts and ideas, Dan W. I haven't yet decided yet if I'm going to write a story, though. If I did, it would be a children's story and maybe just 20 or so pages, nothing major. I wouldn't call it a book, even so. It'll just be a children's story (like a short story)...
