Is it possible to reduce the leaf size on jade? If so, how and when?

When can I shape this thing? the trunk is a little over an inch thick, its about two and a half feet tall.

Alright I think I finally got something to work with. This things about 3 feet tall with a good thick trunk. I'm thinking formal upright. When can I make a trunk cut and thin out a lot of branches?

When it is nice and thick at what height do I make the cut? My guess is two thirds of final desired height?
