    Rouge Boug

Don't be surprised if you see it bract inside as well. The two I referenced get 16 hours a day of low T8 light and the parent will toss some bracts with no special treatment :) Now, I only see that happen once during the Winter here but it is kind of cool. Grimmy

    Rouge Boug

We have one very similar next to the parent plant for the same amount of time. They both receive the same, light, care, substrate, etc... The parent plant will bract a few time a year if I leave them in filtered light, let it dry a bit so the leaf droops, place in full sun, and water a lot...

I really love the idea of a thick, fine mat of surface-roots, but cannot keep sphagnum from going green

Sphagnum = Sphagnum, not decomposed. Peat Moss = Decomposed Sphagnum... I never had those problems with it... :) I used to use Sphagnum to cover and insulate soil surfaces for Winter and actually have better results with a few different things... it is of no use here or at the old place were...

Vitamin B 1 drenches? Who does it?

This article will be of interest to you as it not only debunks B1 but pretty much all so called root stimulators referencing proper watering as the most important part of the process :) https://cals.arizona.edu/yavapai/anr/hort/byg/archive/vitaminb1androotstimulators2015.html Grimmy

Heard two more new Doves tapping around earlier, could never tell they will be a good looking bird in a couple of weeks :P Grimmy

    Black Spots on Azalea

I advised to use the Neem oil on the undersides as I am still pretty certain it is parasitic for a few reasons. Daconil is for fungal, and yes the bad foliage should be removed and the branch structure that is related should be treated if you think that is what needed. Getting some on areas...

    Black Spots on Azalea

The first picture, all of the tops of the healthy foliage on the left show pubescent leaf - the fuzz/fiber/hair like stuff. That is not stomata :) Grimmy

    Black Spots on Azalea

Your pictures indicate otherwise, for the record I have had several types of Azalea that are much the same. The same rules do not apply for all plants and once again, don't treat what is healthy :) Grimmy

    Black Spots on Azalea

The pictures indicate it has pubescent leaf where they are healthy. On plants that have that type of leaf it is to help a couple of different ways with transpiration. I don't spray or treat the fuzzy top leaf for that reason as I want to encourage healthy growth to stay healthy. I remove...

    The $1.00 Treasure...

The "Helen Johnson" Karst is considered dwarf because it normally reaches 2 - 3foot in height even on a trellis. Standard Karst can go 20 plus foot in the same conditions. I see no difference in the leaf size but the dwarf starts to bract a little on the copper side but soon turn to the normal...

    Black Spots on Azalea

I used it on Azalea once weekly for a few months to get rid of/control rust. Yours has pubescent leaf so I would still just spray the undersides of the leaf and the branch structure as you see fit. Grimmy

    Black Spots on Azalea

This season I had three plants otherwise healthy doing the same early in the new growth stages. They were bougainvillea, African sumac, and strawberry guava which I separated from all other plants. That looks post bloom so it should be throwing new growth at this time which is light green as...

    Too Little Ficus...

Our ficus(all types) stay outside in dappled West sun until the nights are consistent 45F. I leave them out even if it goes as as low as 40 for a couple of nights in between. When brought in most droop and/or drop leaf but come back in 2 - 4 weeks. They respond as if it is normal and stay...

    Obligatory Azeala Sokan

Being a bit familiar with Azalea in general I would advise the following for next season after bloom. For now let it back bud and grow and post bloom will net you nice results - In the second picture choose that as your front for a couple of reasons. It shows far less scarring then any other...
