    Tis the night before REBS

Hey Smoke, I was looking for you at the show but I didn't have the chance to meet you. I was very busy at this year's show and with my son. Any way just wanted to let you know that last maple you have a picture of is Kathy's. She had it up for sell last year and it was said it's still for...

Chuhin Trident Maple Project - Defoliation and Re-wiring

Brian, This is very interesting, I purchased one of the "sister" tree's from Ian myself. The same movement, the same root's, stripes on the bark and all the foliage on the 1/3rd top of the tree. I chose the path of thread grafting and planting in a wooden box that I built. I planted it in the...

Heres a funny one... to show bonsai on first date or not? That is the question.

Hahaa if you have her showing up at your house on the first date, I would think all the rules and limitation's are already out the window... She's obviously not the kind of person to be judgemental... My Wife and I had our first date at my house because I didn't have a sitter for my son...

    new hornbeam

I would chop it down to the first branch and feed, water, feed, water and feed... It will take off and you will not be stuck with that straight section that has no taper. It will have movement and taper and you will be happier in the long run. JW

Jim Gremel's Deer Meadow Bonsai - A glimpse

Brian did a good job taking a "couple " of photos. They do no justice at all for Jim's place. Like Brian said it's just row of congested row of Bonsai's not just tree's. I have been going there for a year now for a once a month class with my son and I still don't think we have looked at every...

    False Cypress Bonsai

Rockm I agree with what you said. I learned alot on that material also. But then one day I looked around and I sure had alot of LEARNING material that had no future or that had a couple of years of healing to try to move on to the next step. And I could never sell it at the price needed to earn...

    False Cypress Bonsai

I would agree with mcpesq817... I would also suggest that these tree's don't have a good trunk line and have the classic slingshot structure. We all want a great deal even if it means buying something that's half dead. After you buy 6 or 7 of these bargain's you could of spent your money and...

    Boons new training videos

Email Boon and ask him to do one on Junipers!!!! Or even any of our local masters. They work on them all of the time because most of us are holding off on grafting... But I'm afraid a video of this will only come from youtube... Give the videos a chance, there worth the money. A 50 year old...

    Back to bonsai....

I believe Jim has cashed a check or two of Harry's... Some reason that tree looks familiar. The thing that throws me is the wiring job on it. JW

turning a bonsai hobby into a business

I have three "small companies" in California. It's extremely easy to get them started... You will be amazed at the simplicity of how it's done. The license is easy, insurance is easy, the paper work from lawyers is easy(EVERYTHING IS EXPENSIVE) Year one is great and can be fun from the stress of...

    US Bonsai in 20 years?

Well I did exactly that... hahaa sorry. As far as that line I was trying to say that; when alot of us see the class of people that where signed up for that, we feel very out ranked. When we see a couple of the teachers from one club or another go out and compete it's hard to jump in there...

    US Bonsai in 20 years?

Als quote"Within less than a 45 minute drive of three quality clubs with a combined attendence of over 90 people, I counted only 3 people from those three clubs that came to the display seminar on Sunday at the Toko Kazari. This by Kathy Shaner for 15.00 bucks. Even when high quality education...

    US Bonsai in 20 years?

My first response to Smoke (Al's and DaveV) was no way. But the more I sign up for higher priced classes. The less people I see. The masses are looking for a $20 to $50 Dollar tree and then read a $15 dollar book and become a master. Education from Kathy, Jim Gremmel (obviously you know where...

My largest Trident. What would you do?

There's the nebrai to work on and the branches. You have acquired a nice piece of stock which is a lot to say in itself. You need to work with it and build it, start thinking about secondary branching and where they will go... J W
