    Squamata first styling

I like the symmetry that branch gives - if it were me I would keep it. But the choice is yours and I can see the long term benefits to removing it.

Sounds like someone feels threatened/jealous. :)

    Japanese Boxwood

Love the roots on this one, though they could use a little covering up (not all the way). Just a bit of thinning out and this could be a nice tree! Nice grab for a dime.

    Tiny Red Maple sprout

I collected 9 maple seedlings from my yard in June and potted them up with a mix of pine bark, sand, and peat. They are just pencil whips now, but I will probably plant them in the ground in spring and grow out the trunks. Its a fun little project.

help with design of maple formosana

I agree with the air layer, but I would keep the first branch. Layer just below it so the trunks diverge as close to the roots as possible.

    Pure Awesomeness.

HF does have their place though. When you need that one tool you'll never use again and don't want to pay an arm and a leg for they're the best.

    Maples and a Juniper

Thank you for confirming my suspicion about the graft. I have seen photos of some pretty great looking Bloodgoods, so im not discouraged yet, though I know there is a lot of time/work ahead. What do you think of an air layer above the graft as well? Or do you think it might smooth out with time?

    Maples and a Juniper

This is a thread to track the progress of my current lineup of trees. This is my first growing season, and all my trees are very young. I have not yet procured anything of real age, but I will. Here's what I have at the moment: Procumbens Nana. I did a repot thread on this one shortly after...

    Need some help on Elm

I'm just amazed by the amount of growth put out by these Elms. Between seeing yours and ColinFrasers, I'm feeling like I need to get out and buy one!

Trunk thickening will be the first step to almost any bonsai. Learn to care for the tree and let it grow!
