    Juniper Progress

Hi ... I think it's a good start. Agree with your comments but potting angle, etc. may be secondary at this point; think you should work on the "pads" or foliage as you work. Cut, don't pinch the needles that go down or .. wire them up ... big wire at the trunk, then smaller as you progress out...

I bit off way more then I can chew...buttttt

Mottled sun or early morning or late afternoon sun with misting, keep soil moist but not wet, don't cut the foliage, no wind and leave it in your whiskey tub for a couple years and some parts might regrow. We collect trees from high ridgelines here in the NW and sometimes it takes a couple years...

Greetings! I haven't been able to post much for a couple years as we moved and life sorta took over. I joined the Bonsai Club of Campbell River, BC, Canada. Zone 7b. Pacific Northwest but drier than Seattle. A couple days ago, a charter member indicated he was getting out of bonsai as he wasn't...

    Pinus mugo

I found a couple nice nursery mugos only by looking at 5 places and dozens of trees ... Vance's techniques have been working for me ... I have had the trees up to 3 years and counting ... none are in pots yet. When you find one .. search Vance Wood threads/posts to learn how to get them started...

I found this very helpful ... decandling vs. breaking pine shoots.

As a novice to pines, articles and advice can be confusing ... the link below helped me better understand the two techniques of decandling vs. breaking pine shoots on various types of pines. Hopefully the link works ... if not, cut and paste into your browser. Cheers Kelly...

Mugo Update Kelly - Needle Cast? Help please ...

Yes ... I had previously found and downloaded the diagnostic tool you refer to ... thanks. It is very helpful. I will take some better pictures of the barring on the needles and will continue with the Daconil and wettable copper treatments. I did not know about the yellowing of the needle tips...

Mugo Update Kelly - Needle Cast? Help please ...

Thanks to all for your comments ... I am pretty sure the tree acquired the red bar - dothistrama (sp?) in Ottawa where it is widespread. I will continue with the daconil treatments. As I understand it; you might be able to control it but not be rid of it ... There are some pretty accomplished...

Mugo Update Kelly - Needle Cast? Help please ...

Thanks Vance ... so you don't think the tree has needle cast or red bar?? The needle tips are yellow and there are numerous needles that start halfway with a blemish and then a bar and then half the needle dies ... I won't repot or break any candles this year and will continue with the fungicide...

Greetings all (and specifically Vance). I am a novice and welcome your comments/advice. The following is an update on the Mugo I purchased approx. 2 years ago from a nursery in Ottawa, CA. Rocky Mt Juniper: First styling

Not being an expert ... the horizontal jin and all previous work "works" for me. I also appreciate that you had the tree for so long before you completed the work. I think its really well done. Certainly helped me as I am at the stage where I can grow the trees but am learning how to visualize...

    Making pedestal stands

Nice setup(s)! We are moving to BC and will need to start on building stands and a garden. Brian's setup looks great and provided some great ideas and inspiration. Now if I can just get the trees there - 5600 kms or 3450 miles !!! Will post some pics of the travel arrangements!
