I think you can pull off something similar. Start wiring, take your time with it. It will start transforming before your eyes. If you don't like where it's heading, stop. Let it grow out a bit. You will have more ideas where to take this tree, and plenty of time to do it. Go for it...

It is really hard to see the 3D of the tree in pictures, but you might be missing a great opportunity for a cool bunjin or literati. Think about changing the planting angle. Just food for thought. Troy
