Jkl, what recommendation would you give as to a pot for this tree? Another question, would you have suggestions for cleaning the trunk where it has accumulated dirt or should I just leave it be?

Not sure how boxwoods got the reputation of healing/growing slowly. Maybe some varieties do, but the common boxwoods you see in hedges in the US heal very quickly. The scars from my big chops 2 years ago have healed close to 50% since. I'd assume 3-4 years longer and they will be healed over...

It was a shrub back in 2012. There is a picture on the first post. Maybe 3 feet tall. I pulled it from the ground and trimmed back a little in year one (picture 2). Year two I cut back almost every branch on it to get it down close to current size. The past two years I've just let the new...

Ill eventually be removing the top portion of the tree to correct the taper, just haven't decided when yet. The bottom branch is new from last year, its the only branch I dont trim back so its growing well. Thanks for the response

Here is the most recent update for this tree. Still struggling with a little reverse taper, but it is growing and healing well. Still havent found the time to repot it. Probably will this fall or next spring.

    buds, buds, love em.

My potted crapes also budded a few weeks ago. I'd assume it has to do with the soil in the pots location warming faster on spring days than the earth. My landscape crapes wont bud until May.

    Shohin Barberry

Here is a spring 2014 update. Hoping to fill out the canopy better this year. Also plan to remove one of the lowest bar branches if I ever get another well placed branch to grow. These things would rather bud everywhere else on the tree than where I want it to.

The trunk is about 2 inches thick. The tree stands 10inches from the soil.

Just thought I'd post an update on a boxwood of mine. All of my trees are still a really long way from looking anything like a bonsai, but every spring seeing them start growing in the right direction gives me hope for the future. These pictures should show when I got the bush, my first...

    Boxwood in Training

I've had this for a couple of years now, it may be one of the first two or three plants I attempted bonsai on. Came from a friends garden in mid summer. Slowly reducing the huge rootball. Should be ready for a training pot next year or the year after. Not much to look at yet. When I got...
