My system: spring gun near a window that I can open easily and shoot out of, with a large hanging bird feeder and a tiny bell just a few feet outside that window. It draws them in to make it easy for a humane shot, and notifies you when to do it.

Most people don't even take into account the tides. Your trees need more water at low tide than at high tide. It is known.
