You can do it with Schefflera pardon my spelling.. Have you noticed with ficus it seems bigger cuttings take easier than smaller cuttings? Or is that just a fluke with me?
I have to admit that I let the Diatomatious earth dry out completely. I have been letting my ficus get bone dry. While this works in my Lava rock and bark mix that is when it seems the DE dries up the roots.
Well bottom line comparing anything in Bonsai to work on a full size tree is like comparing apples to oranges. Though you can cut an apple and an orange into slices you cant use the same rules to judge the quality.
Well.. I am quite an a$$ most of the time really. I may have let a little sarcasm in by mistake.
And as a proper a$$ I want to point out that I brought up the grass mowing thing around two minutes before mcpesq817 So nuts to you mcpesq817 for trying to take credit.. he he
Well since starting franks skewers I have been judging from them and then weighing to check if I am correct. Well Frank your skewers have been on the money. I'm dropping the scale. Thanks.
I was not trivializing his findings. In fact I read some of his stuff because of this thread. I just think the attitude he held that we disrespect trees in bonsai is wrong. Some people may disrespect trees doing bonsai but bonsai in itself is not disrespect of trees. If anything we respect them...
I have tried diatomatious earth with ficus. When it drys as much as ficus needs to dry out it appears that it starts to desiccate the roots drying them out. I don't know why it does that but it does. Just touching the stuff you can feel it pull the moisture out of your fingers when its dry.
I think Dr. Shigo most likely mowed his grass and pulled weeds. Why is that ok.. Why can I freely disrespect grass and weeds?
Because they are not as beautiful.
My wife will tell me to kill a roach but not a ladybug.
You will eat a catfish but not an angel fish.
You can kill a cow but...
