Why in the world are you bothering to plant seeds when you can get a 100+ year old Ponderosa next spring? I am not sure about you but I don't have that much time to look at growth from seeds.

I have a regular common variety elm. The kind if you see in your yard taling root you hit it with round up. I recently put it in a new pot after trimming the roots. i used miracle grow potting mix for my soil. Is this correct. Most of my collection is Ponderosas collected from the mountains...

Collecting in NM I know for a fact that in Colorado on forest service property the only time you are allowed to collect is April 15 - May 31 with permits of course. I have heard of folks going out in the fall towards late October either on private land or poaching.

Frank.... where did you buy your shade cloth and how do you have it suspended? The only area of my yard that I can use is a southern exposure and it gets too much hot afternoon sun. I know a shade would help immensly. Dave in Colorado

Do Shimpaku's require the soil to be kept moist or do they prefer slightly dry as do Ponderosas?:confused:

Where in the state of Wyoming was it collected. It's a fantastic tree and a good size. I collected 9 Ponderosas this year and when I got them home I realized how large they were. Trees in the wild always look smaller. Dave in Colorado.:cool:

Sometimes the root mass of a tree dictates how it is placed in a pot. The majority of the 9 Ponderosas I collected this year I would have preferred a different placement in their pots but it just didn't suit the tree. DAve in Colorado:cool:
