    Tsuga Canadensis study group

Sounds like a plan, but I’ll resuggest the self-graft. With the genetic variability in stock, it would stink to put in all the work and then have different branches expressing themselves differently. And the length and flexibility of Tsuga growth should make it easy to approach to itself...

That is more than a stick in a pot. That is a honking trunk. And a nice amount of roots too. Give it 2-3 years of unrestricted growth to strengthen it in it’s new environment. Down the road. I would consider some self grafts to compact the structure. Could be a stunning tree down the road.

    Tsuga canadensis collected

I moved over the summer from outside DC to Myrtle Beach, SC. I’m not sure if Tsuga can take the heat here, so I have some less special Tsuga as guinea pigs. Aaron is active in NVBS and he is caring for two of my nice Tsuga. The “Depot” Tsuga, I have (pipe dream) aspirations that someday it...

    Tsuga canadensis collected

I’ve been pleased with the progress of this tree under Aaron’s care, while I see if Tsuga can make it in coastal South Carolina. He worked the roots and repotted into the Rayner pot. Wire and cleanup coming soon.

    Depot Eastern Hemlock

It didn’t quite fit into the Yixing pot. The blue glaze does’t fit the tree real well, but the size is nice. I’m not sure if the Yixing will be the finished pot for the tree, but it has developed quite well under Aaron’s care.

    CM BONSAI!!

These are a few that I got a few years back. I totally neglected these. I didn’t even water diligently, but luckily they had escaped from the grow bags that they were shipped in. I dug them out with a shovel before I moved last summer. My brother in law, and friend, Marlon Carvalho repotted them...

Repotted my new stock from @cmeg1 . I’m sure I didn’t do it quite right; maybe a bit deep, but given enough time maybe they’ll turn out all right. I was going to let them establish in these orchid pots over the next couple years, maybe with some light chops to simulate movement and to...

    The Hemlock (Tsuga) Discussion THREAD.

One of my trial Tsuga c., to see if they can hack it in the coastal Carolina heat, is doing pretty well. I repotted them all in to bigger pots, but this one got more of a slip pot up. I’ll give them another year before risking my collected one by bringing it down. It is in safe hands now.

    Willow leaf f. Cutting

I was worried about the OP tree on the right, but it’s budding out.

    CM BONSAI!!

I got mine in the mail today in great shape. I may need to pick up a few more pond baskets to really let them run. Maybe put one in 5 stacked colanders? Turface and peat moss 50/50? Or get them started on the good stuff? @cmeg1 wouldn’t be fun to get some corker seedlings in the mix?

    Podocarpus

A few of my characteristically bad photos. Looks like I never got much movement wired in, but the trunk is nice and honking. I wonder if I should take back with me to SC?

Cleaning up the weeds on this “Stick in pot,” 15 years in training. For a Siberian elm, I think it will be a nice tree… in another 15 years or so.
