    Fresh pots

I don't normally fire in electric kilns, so I don't really have a 'hold period'. I usually fire gas kilns in reduction or atmospheric firings in wood or soda kilns. On a medium reduction I typically fire up to cone 08; begin body reduction. After that the kiln blasts up to cone 7 then begin...

    Fresh pots

Are you just firing the pots unglazed in reduction? At 06 the clay doesn't vitrify and there's no body reduction that takes place at that temperature allowing the clay body to absorb the carbon and gain it's 'toastiness'. Definitely best to fire a bonsai pot to cone ten to be safer in colder...

    Fresh pots

Looks good man. A 22" oval is no joke!! That's a decent sized pot. Hope drying and firing goes well on it for you.

    Fresh pots

Progress on a new dragon pot. Some freshly thrown pots. Left; Porcelain. Right top; Laguna 900 brown bodied clay. Bottom right; Laguna B-Mix Stoneware. The two pots at the top were thrown last night. After allowing to dry to leather hard I will carve feet and drainage/wore holes. The...

    Pot worth trying to fix?

What ever you do don't use bondo or fiberglass. Bondo is porous and will absorb water, swell and crack. Fiberglass won't adhere to a high fired pot...especially with constant moisture present. It too absorbs water, unless you get into applying gelcoat to seal off the raw glass. If you're...
