    Debate Poll

Well, considering the average bickering going on in this thread and the average bickering going on in the other threads I guess the rating for this thread IS pretty unfair, at least in Bnut-standards...:)

    Debate Poll

I realize the poll isn't meant to be all scientific-y and I do think it's great to sometimes evaluate what it is we're doing, but it's kinda hard to quantify a qualitative question. It might be a good idea to tell the viewers why you (as in anyone) answered the poll the way you (as in anyone)...

    Evolution of a Mugo Pine

Good call, Vance! Seems to me like a pretty huge improvement!

Wait until you see my new masterpiece!

I agree and I apologize. I realized me arguing what you said wasn't going to make any kind of difference since both of us can be pretty stubborn. I just wanted to end my part of the discussion (in a stupid way) but then I couldn't help myself so I posted some more (which was stupid). Anyway...

Wait until you see my new masterpiece!

Will, I'm sorry to say that I think your arguments are so flawed nothing of what you say really makes sense to me. Here's why: The word "good". If I change my tone of voice the meaning changes. The word itself still means the same, but I communicate the opposite. The words themselves...

Wait until you see my new masterpiece!

During my years in the "art society" I have barely heard "masterpieces" being discussed. I think the word belongs more in a craft setting, like cabinet making for instance that I've also studied. However, this might be due to difference in language. Sorry for this short and perhaps confusing...

    Good mushrooms?

There's clearly mycorrhiza in the first 3 pics. The "fuzzy" around the roots are hyphae that goes through the roots and into the soil. One can also see that there are short and "chubby" roots that resembles coral.

    Good mushrooms?

Great, I didn't want to come across as if I actually knew anything :) Anyway, as far as I know you can actually see if there mycorrhiza on a pine because the root will be very well ramified. I've had it pointed out on a Pine bonsai by a professor of plant physiology and it doesn't look like...

    Good mushrooms?

Graydon, I really don't know enough about the whole thing so I can't really say that you're wrong. If the trees look healthy and all, that's all that matters. I hope I didn't come across as being agumentative. Regards Emil

    Good mushrooms?

I'm not sure I understand what you mean. Colonized by what? If it's mycel or hyphae you're talking about it's not so hard to explain. The fact that the soil is colonized by the stuff doesn't mean there's an actual symbiosis going on. Like I said, the fact that the soil is colonized by the...

    Good mushrooms?

What mycorrhiza basically does is to help the tree colonize a larger area thus giving the tree water and nutrients (wich there should be enough of in a pot) in exchange for carbohydrates. If the tree gets enough nitrogen (wich it should in a pot) the symbiosis stops or doesn't develop. After...
