    Fallen Ficus !!

Not quite yet Ed! I meant I don't comment on another person's thread much when I don't have a question or something to contribute. Making your own thread and posting progressions is not "post monger" type behavior in the least. It is nice to see what other people are working on and trying...

    exposed root Crape Myrtle

The change in the roots look much more pleasing to the eye. I really like that blue as well!

    Fallen Ficus !!

Neat idea with the bottle. I hope it works out for you and it turns out looking like you imagine. How warm does it stay near this tree? I know roots grow much much faster when there is humidity(check) and ample heat(?). Good for you for posting. I don't always comment on things because I...

    Net Pots

Mighty fine answer. Your assumptions were fairly accurate. Different purposes for different tools.

    Net Pots

Now my question is.....This would not be good for trees that one would want to grow out because it would rob the tree of maximum top growth?

    Net Pots

Yes. Yes. Usually unless you want trunk size instead of root development. Yes.

    Hornbeam gone wild

This is one of those inspirational trees that makes you want to go wire anything in sight. Including plastic house plants. If you have the time maybe you could take a photo of this tree from the top down? The photos on the blog of some of the branches that are top down are kinda neat.

To reduce or not to reduce? (crabapple)

I must default to Stan's initial assessment. Doing much more to this tree right now might be too much. Even the chop would be drastic for a newly field dug tree. An air-layer is going to rob a considerable amount of energy that would otherwise being going into the mother tree's root system...

To reduce or not to reduce? (crabapple)

Full Sun? You might find this thread of JudyB's enlightening as well because it is all crab advice. And a nice tree.

To reduce or not to reduce? (crabapple)

Correct. Sorry I edited my post while you posted and answered more directly. But you seem to get it.

To reduce or not to reduce? (crabapple)

If you don't mind I would suggest you read this article by Brent Walston. Growing Large Trunks for Bonsai Here is an excerpt from that article that will hopefully answer your question about sacrifice branches. "Use sacrifice branches and leaders to correct a problem when your tree already...

    Azaela Spring Development Question

Fair enough. Now I am tempted to fertilize(org) and just prune mercilessly. Appreciate your guidance.

Where is a good place to find a crab apple bonsai in southern California?

    1. It is already suffered a pretty horrific day. Don't you think? 2. What did they use at House of Bonsai? Something special or just some pruners and a saw?

    Azaela Spring Development Question

Since I cannot find the thread that has the answer I will ask for the answer, or the path to the answer about deflowering Azaleas in development. I remember that someone shared some wisdom about training techniques of azaleas before but I can't find it! Since I see flower buds starting to...
