    undiscovered native US trees?

    I think one under-appreciated species is Acer grandidentatum (Big Tooth Maple). Grows wild in NV to Texas. Small leaves. Great fall color. Hardy. Trunks-up well. No diseases. Hard to find seeds or potted specimens.

    Simon Kenton was as important as Daniel Boone on the frontier. He saved Boone's life once. All of Alan Eckert's books are superb. Be sure you also read his story of the demise of the passenger pigeon.....from 2 billion to extinction.

    You will never see those long candles on an Ogi. It is a slow grower with candles under one inch long.

    crab apple chop help. when?!

    I have had a number of crabs over 30 years. My favorite time to prune is July/Aug to cut back the vigorous summer growth and in April 2 weeks before leafing out.
