I mix my own soil I have a video on it on my channel mostly turface, lava and pine bark fines. And those weeds are a violet like plant that has a nice little flower that blooms and helps keep the soil moist. I will weed them after they are finished being pre bonsai:D

Yup I do as well If you want it to stay small keep it in the container you have it in or a little larger to help with development. If you want it to get bigger transplant it in to a much larger container and fertilize it and keep soil moist these like to drink and resist cutting it and watch it...

Yes, I always do my thread grafting just as I see movement on the buds in spring and even then you do not get 100% success. not sure how a late spring/early summer thread graft would fair.
