    Mine was like yours and you can see how much i have cut it back here. I then put it with another i had . Here is the other one ,it nearly died from drying out on the slab was i decided to put it with the other in a pot.

    So, I found this amazing tree...

    I would be in straight away and offer to replace it with a new tree or shrub. The amount of times i see things ripped out after thinking it would make a good bonsai. You might find they don't like the thing and would like all the grass being smooth so you could turf it for them.
