Update - Continuing to reduce root ball. Next year should get me down closer to the root ball depth I want. Need to start working on the wounds and branching now. first pic is before this years root work.

Update on Progress - Sorry I did'nt get pics of the root work this year but I was able to cut out the big stump that was keeping me from reducing to a smaller pot what a pain it was but used the sawsall and made it easier. The first pic is after the root work and the following pics where taken...

Wee Trees

I found the simple method works the best. I buy Jobes Plant spikes cut them into quarters and put them just under the soil around the tree, so far I have excellent results and no messy chemicals or organics drawing flies. I do supplement once a month with fish emulsion.

DO NOT get Jap Maples unless you have a shade house and misting system they will fry here in Texas.

I have an unglazed pot like the one it's in but it's gray and doesn't look good with it. I really like the glaze on the attached pot but cant find one like it. I also have some brown oval pots but they might be to shallow, will dig them out and see how they look. Thanks

Yea it's a big scar, but will be working on covering it with Ariel roots or hollowing it out. I had considered a pot like you described but thought it might be to much and distract from the tree.
