Thanks Eric. I'm glad you like the clump. I've been growing out a lot of trees the past several years and it is nice to finally get some material that is ready to work on.

Here are a few of the "trees" as the stand now, two growing seasons from the initial post. I had potted a bunch of these into 2" pots with the intention of selling them but that hasn't happened yet so pretty much all of them have stayed in the 2" pots and not put on a dramatic amount of growth...

I seem to recall you posting some pretty big olives Paul. Do you also have smaller ones in shallow pots that you leave outside all winter with no ill effects? Very timely post, I was just thinking about this same question!

Very cool tree you have there! I'm not sure how commonly they end up in the nursery trade but another possibility, especially based on your location in CA, is the island oak (Quercus tomentella). Although they are naturally restricted to the Channel Islands I know native plant nurseries...

Pittosporum tobira They are a common landscape shrub/hedge in California. I'm not really sure about its suitability for bonsai but they don't strike me as being the best candidate.

I like to grow from seed and I've found these little mini-forests to be a good way to use a few of my excess seedlings. Japanese maple Trident maple I need to get some suitable pots for the spring.
