    Cypress Yardadori

Cypress are collected only in the coldest day of the year. They must be dormant before attempting any root work. I would not attempt it in advance of collection. At collection, while dorment is the time that you chop. Pot up and set in pan of water. In springg it will rebud and grow out...

    Mock Orange

Mine back buds profucely on old wood. Apon further investigation It seems you are correct. Both are called Mock orange but my florals are very jasmine fragrant, it buds profusely on hard wood also. This would also explain why it blooms so often.

    Mock Orange

Developing this mock orange as an informal upright bonsai. I chopped about 18 inches off of it after last bloom, just 2 weeks ago. Now it is blooming again and covered in new sprouts and growth. This tree is the only Philadelphus - mock orange, that I am aware of being developed as bonsai and...

    Powder Puff pruning and shapeing

Thanks everyone and thank you for bumping me Mike Frary. The tree is indeed tropical but can be grown indoors easily from what I understand. I have read the article previously when I got the tree Rob. I have also seen the tree they refer to under the "how to make it bloom in 20 days for a show...

    Powder Puff pruning and shapeing

I live in South Florida so we have a good growing season nearly all year around. I acquired my first calliandra - powder puff - from a nursery this past winter. It was the healthiest of three to select from although it was tall and the branches were long and lush. I root trimmed it and repotted...

    Collected Ficus

Hello everyone. I was at a friends over the summer and he had a stray ficus in the corner of the yard growing against his privacy fence. He said had been there 5 or 6 years and that he was getting it out of there eventually and I told him I wanted it when he did. He shows up in mid Nov with the...

    Jade Help

Thank you. Thank you everyone for so much great advice. I am happy no one recommended tossing it from the bonsai table. LOL I shouldn't have used the word rot instead of dried out. As far as I can tell there is no rot but a lot of dried up branches and crossing over, even wrapping branches. I...

    Jade Help

Hi everyone. I am new to this wonderful forum and a bonsai novice as well. I live in subtropical South Florida. Last month one of my elderly neighbor who had been ill for over a year passed away and her son, knowing I have a green thumb, offered me a few of the plants from her yard. One plant...
