I ended up cutting them back last week and got them in bonsai soil.

I bought 10qt if bonsai soil. I will chop them back and plant them in the bonsai soil first thing in the morning

Throwing this back to the top. I would really like to chop them down, but want to make sure it is not too late in the season. We have a ton of rain right now, but I plan on getting them into bonsai soil by the end of the week if I can chop them down.

Yes, I planted them in these pots and soil today. When I showed up to pick them up, they were already pulled from the ground. I believe they were pulled yesterday. I was in a rush, so I grabbed them on my lunch break, went home and through them in a pot with some potting soil.

Here are some updated pictures. Back budding had gone crazy. I was going to wait and let it recover before I take off that straight branch on the left. What do you guys think?

My plan was to begin wiring in a couple weeks and start to give it that willow look. Should I go a lot shorter?

So I took the first step and cut it back and put it in a grow box. I also cut away about 1/4 of the root mass. I am going to let it recover this year and then do a heavy prune again next spring. Thoughts?

Good afternoon. I have a bunch of wood from some houses being built around me. The markings on the wood suggest it was heat treated. It is all builder grade lumber from the frames of houses. Can I use this for my grow box? I probably should have asked before I built it, lol.
