So last year it got a little too hot in the late summer in my 'backyard.' There was some leaf scorching going on. So this winter I got an umbrella frame and some shade cloth and got the cloth sewn to fit the umbrella and it's looking good. (thanks mom by the way for doing the sewing...)
I got 8 feet of 6 feet wide 40% shade cloth from here:
shadeclothstore.com
http://www.shadeclothstore.com/products/shadecloth40__knittedshadecloth.html
40% Shade - CL4750 Unfinished 6' width - enter length desired in quantity box (8) $13.20
I got the umbrella frame here:
shadeusa
http://www.patio-umbrellas.com/pati...ellas/9_foot_aluminum_replacement_frames.html
9' replacement frame choices aluminum 8 rib with fiber-flex ribs
Price : US$44.95
It cost about 10$ each for shipping so total cost was $80 plus mom (I'm 41 by the way and mom lives an hour or so away (Santa Rosa) just so you know... this was a rare collaboration project...)
Basically just cut 8 triangles and sewed them together.
Used a 2" drill bit to cut holes in my table
By the way, I'm renting so it's not my fault the landlord put in this reflective limestone tile stuff... I think summers would be easier if the backyard were grass. It's so reflective I sometimes feel like I'm in Las Vegas on a pool patio (that doesn't happen much anymore,) or on a ski slope... hmmm also seems rare.
