Hi Bonhe, what zone are you in? Your area is a desert, and yet, you can keep ume healthy and flowering for so long? Ume are very hard to keep in Southern California, even in cooler spots. So please after you are satisfied with the photography, please tell us exactly how you grow this tree. The info might apply to other difficult cold weather trees as well. Thanks. And keep the pics coming.

Hi Si, I just checked the USDA Plant Hardiness Zone 2012 update. My zone is 9b.
The fact of keeping ume healthy and blooming for 5 years suprised Ota sensei. At this time I have been keeping the azalea for almost 2 years without death! ;-)
Yes, as your request, I'll tell you what I have been applying to this ume!

still beautiful. I think this is one of those transitional moments that makes a subtle, poetic statement about the nature of life.

As Si's request, I let you know the secret to raise the ume in hot area!
Keep the soil and the pot cool at all time! This tree I let it be in full sun area up to noon and I have been using the white T shirt to cover the whole pot until I get home from work. You can see moss grow on the surface of the tree! Good luck!

I lived in LA from 2004-2011 and had a really nice flowering apricot when I was there. It too bloomed every year, never did anything special for it other then repot it every 2-3 years and water once to twice daily from spring through summer. Ume love California weather, I even let mine fruit a few years. I originally got my plant from Bobs nursery.
