You know your cutting is well rooted when you can hold it by the trunk of the cutting ;)

That is good to hear. I took a couple elm cuttings last week that i wish i had in a clear pot for observation. It seems to have dwarf leaves, perhaps from conditions growing in the morter of a brick wall, but some of it's siblings in the same wall had much larger leaves, so who knows.

How is the rest of your collection doing with the pest situation.

The clear pots are great, I use them for all my cuttings now. I didn't even know you could take elm cuttings at this time of year, especially with this weird Spring we've been having

The rest of the collection seems to be doing OK, new growth is dying off every once in a while, so I'll treat for bugs again this weekend. It's never ending though...

That actually reminds me, I need to change out my T5 bulbs, they're slowing burning out. Hm.

Here's this tree as of today:

If anyone's interested in it, I'll gladly sell it. I'm not too big a fan of Green Island Ficus (it's the round leaves, dunno why).

Where are you getting the clear pots? They would be great for air layers as well.

A nursery down the road from me, they're great pots. They call them "orchid pots", so you may try searching the web using that.

Thanks Ryan. And those pots are cool with their super drainage. These guys are air layers best friend thanks again.

Tree flipping, nice. I hope someone buys it from you, better off than someone gifting an actual Mallsai to someone.

It probably won't get any hits at the price it's at now, but if someone here wants it I'd sell it for $30 plus shipping, which can't be much for this little thing. I just want to clear my shelves to make room.

Well, since this one didn't sell (not surprising), I've given the roots a quick trim and stuck it in a pot.

I also noticed that there is a V notch where the branches meet the bulbous roots, so methinks this one was grafted...

Hello Ryan,

Your ficus project inspired me to do the same thing to my ginseng ficus. I performed a different method though. I sawed off the top portion, and wrapped a wad of sphagnum moss at the base, and planted it in a pot of pumice and akadama. Maybe a month and a half has gone by, and I can lift it by the top of the tree, and not have to worry about it pulling out of the soil. It's amazing how fast they root huh?

It is pretty crazy how they grow new roots in no time. The leaf growth is slow since this is a Green Island, but the root growth is crazy.
