What is that crazy looking hollow stump in this last set of photos? Very cool. I think I'd have to snatch it!
Thanks for the pics, looks like you're not having any trouble finding bonsai community out there!
That was one of the trees styled in a demonstration. I don't remember the species i think it was styled by Kathy Shaner. They had great material for the demonstrations this year. That one wasn't for sale you had to bid on it in the auction, I didn't stay for the auction last night as i'd already spent over what i'd planned. It was probably part of last nights auction, there was a real nice shohin itoigawa styled by Tak Shimazu also in the bidding auction last night. And an amazing Ume which was being styled as I left and was probably i last nights auction. A number of the trees to be auctioned off were show worthy and I figured they'd go for over 1-2k.
I bought 2 nice trees a sequoia collected by Zack Shimon and a black pine which has a high graft of cork bark pine. I plan to separate the two next spring and have 2 pines as they are both nice. Also won a large bunch of Jim Gremels copper wire in one of the silent auctions. If only I hadn't bought a large batch of his wire before the auction, now I have enough copper wire for 2 years which isn't a bad thing.
