After rooting the cuttings I tried a failed ground layer to fix the lopsided nebari. Indoor growing wasn't conducive to the amount of growth I needed. I stuck it in a colander and it grew pretty well for someone that didn't know what he was doing. It went through several rounds of abuse and misguided attempts to get it to flourish. Put into a nursery pot, then crammed into a tiny bonsai pot over last winter. This spring I put it back into a bulb pan. This time I used better soil, two parts pumice, one part akadama, and one part turface.
It showed signs of vigor over the summer. I experimented with putting it in a clear plastic container to encourage aerial roots, but I moved it into the sun one day and the lower moisture level inside caused foliage to die off. So I cut off all the dead stuff and stuffed it into a little pot again. This time it had a good root system and I used good soil.
