it seemed priced ok, I had looked at that one.
Thinking on cutting it back a bit? letting it grow?

Lol guess inflection don't converse well in txt. It much nice then my two I meant it as a joke. Price is irrelevant if something speaks to you!

Don, I love that bloom! Do you know the name of this variety?

The close up of the trunk seems to show... damage? Almost a deadwood feature with new wood rolling over it? Is that just some bark peeling off to show new Spring growth or is there some dead wood there?

Very nice Darlene!
IMO this tree is perfect for you!

I know that the price conversation is over. Just want to throw this out for the masses.........

I think Darlene will have much less worries with a tree from up here rather than down south. That alone is worth any of Don's fair asking prices.

I was going to buy my first real tree from Don, but Judy grabbed my dollar! Oddly, it's in part, due to the giant Trident from Don that pushed that little Zelcova my way! The giant Trident that is one of the most impressive trees any of us have seen here!

I still look forward to doing business with Don. A gentlemen best I can tell, and the best source of well cared for material we have in our climate.

Thanks Sorce...that number you got from Judy is pretty sweet as well. Let's be honest...she also has some nice material in her care. But...yes, I learned my lesson trying to bring trees from outside my climate to tend. I've come to realize...I would rather stack the odds in my favor.

An azalea was third on my list...of possibilities. When I seen the amount I had set back...and the price on this number still allowing me some money in my pocket. I leaped! When you think I believe Don said it was an 11 yr. old cutting...and not a stick in a pot. How could I not...

Though...not knowing varieties of azalea...I still made sure I could tend it happily. Before making the plunge. Don was amazing sending me tons of photos...even from last season. And quick to share all angles of the tree.

I copied the name of the tree from his site...
Satsuki Azalea, hikari-no-tsukas
it has Shari and yes...new wood rolling over. (That's all I know)

Again, this is a nice score., I have one satsuki that is tiny and not a bonsai but it has similar flowers to this one. The multi-color flowers are wonderful! please share a pic when in bloom.

They all must start somewhere. I'm assuming your material is pre-bonsai and what a plus to have blooms!

It is hikari-no-tsukas and was taken as a cutting from a tree imported from Japan. Blooms are light pink, red and white.
I just looked at my records and see that it was 12 years old when I bought it in May of 2011.
It had 2 awkward, heavy branches. I removed them and killed the live wood between them to create shari. This Spring I cleaned up the shari and freshened the edge of the live vein. The tree is growing strong enough to swallow the shari if its not left in check. I understand that not everyone likes deadwood on satsuki. I happen to like it. It looks good with the color of bark and flowers, and the thickness of bark makes for easy and subtle transition, imo. It is what it is.

Very interesting! Sooooo does that mean that the variety can have any three of those colors...or those three colors can be found on one tree? Wasn't quite sure...thanks for the write up on the history of my tree.
