it seemed priced ok, I had looked at that one.
Thinking on cutting it back a bit? letting it grow?
Looks nice though i hope you didn't pay to much for that one

Its ok Giga. I figured I'd take your harpoon.Lol guess inflection don't converse well in txt. It much nice then my two I meant it as a joke. Price is irrelevant if something speaks to you!
Don, I love that bloom! Do you know the name of this variety?
The close up of the trunk seems to show... damage? Almost a deadwood feature with new wood rolling over it? Is that just some bark peeling off to show new Spring growth or is there some dead wood there?
it has Shari and yes...new wood rolling over. (That's all I know)Satsuki Azalea, hikari-no-tsukas
Again, this is a nice score., I have one satsuki that is tiny and not a bonsai but it has similar flowers to this one. The multi-color flowers are wonderful! please share a pic when in bloom.

Very interesting! Sooooo does that mean that the variety can have any three of those colors...or those three colors can be found on one tree? Wasn't quite sure...thanks for the write up on the history of my tree.It is hikari-no-tsukas and was taken as a cutting from a tree imported from Japan. Blooms are light pink, red and white.
I just looked at my records and see that it was 12 years old when I bought it in May of 2011.
It had 2 awkward, heavy branches. I removed them and killed the live wood between them to create shari. This Spring I cleaned up the shari and freshened the edge of the live vein. The tree is growing strong enough to swallow the shari if its not left in check. I understand that not everyone likes deadwood on satsuki. I happen to like it. It looks good with the color of bark and flowers, and the thickness of bark makes for easy and subtle transition, imo. It is what it is.
