Here is my contribution to the progressive maple challenge. It is a trident that was acquired last year from a small bonsai nursery in Greenville, South Carolina. It stayed in its nursery container last growing season. Aside from some light pruning to encourage back budding, it was allowed to grow freely. This year the plan is to put it in a grow container, begin to address the scars made by field pruning, and perhaps thread graft to improve the larger branches. Too much too soon? I don't know, so I intend to take it to a master class at the end of the month and make a final plan then. It will take much longer than a year for this tree to look like much, but I think the challenge will be fun.
