FYI: Temps will be dropping to 30s with wind chill down to 20s and frost tonight and friday night.

All my deciduous are going into the garage tonight until Saturday and maybe my sickly pine and junipers as well.

If youre anywhere in the Northeast, check your weather.

Im not happy about it either.

If the temps drop overnight, is it good enough to store them in something like the garage overnight and in the morning put them back out again?

I've also heard that in vineyards the foliage is sprayed with water if a sudden frost happens, because the coldness will have to freeze the water on top of the plant before it gets to the actual leaf

Yes, send them to your garage and you should be fine. The temps in most place are getting just below freezing so you should be okay. If they went down to 15 that would be a different story.

Mine are all staying outside as never has seemed to matter here. On the ground they seem to stay warm enough to endure a cold snap ok. Easier for me this year as I have not built benches at this place yet.

Ya, i'm not too worried. the temps are dipping down to 35 or so, but it doesn't hurt to be cautious! My back porch is pretty much in a big wind tunnel, so temp. fluctuations are a big deal. I don't know how my hinoki survives there, but it seems to be growing fine ;)

My main concern is the tender new leaves some of my trees have.
Cold with that predicted wind chill + frost = dead leaves.

My healthy pines and junis will stay out.

Bumped my temps up in the cold greenhouse...I have a few root pruned trees I wish to protect. Crazy weather...mine are also back in protection. Sleet, then snow last night...with cold temps lingering.

Woke up this morning to 30 deg and a raging snow squall which covered roof tops and part of the ground with snow. Yep.

Moved any trees that had recently been repotted or leafed out into the garage and barn last night. Conifers and deciduous that haven't really started opening buds stayed out. With the long cold winter we had, most of my trees are behind schedule in terms of growth so they should be OK. Best wishes to all who have to endure this ridiculous weather!

I am moving most of mine into the garage this afternoon. Especially concerned about my maples and cherry blossoms, so better safe than sorry.

I lost my cherry blossoms a bit early...from temps dropping on a day that it wasn't supposed to. Just forced my hand at shaping it up a bit. Which it had never had done to it. But...protect those blossoms if you can...so you can enjoy them longer. (Photos of those blossoms?)

My cherry blossoms are just several year old cuttings in pond baskets right now, but they do flower each spring.

I am guessing these will be gone in a few days before they ever had a chance, that is the lowest at about 5 foot up. No chance I will be moving them as they are to tall to get through a doorway. Oh well, maybe next year I can see lots of nice blooms on the Crabapples

Sure are pretty! Thanks for the photo...

Curious about a weeping cherry I have in ground. Some blooms opened...some yet to open. Assuming this cold spell will kill off the remainder of the blooms after seeing Grimmy's post. image.jpg

Should be okay in the ground, unless it dips pretty low. I have weeping cherries as landscape trees and they are just starting to flower. They've weathered snow, ice storms and freezes in previous years. Good luck.

Thanks! This is our first weeping cherry that didn't die. Almost 14 years ago we planted a pink variety when my son was born...it died...had a landscaping company plant one...it died. (They voided the warranty because they stated we had poor soil...mind you they prepared the hole) researching...I learned we had it in shade near the ravine. So this one we placed in full sun last year. That it woke up was a beautiful thing. :) We protected it with burlap over winter...but I took the protection down with the warmer weather.
