thanks, it was done in a workshop at the St. Louis shohin convention. The leader of the workshop was Taiga Urushibata, Nobuichi Urushibata's son. He is young like me and he has great talent. shohin kid

Age should never be a guide in finding a teacher.

BTW the cascade is only about 10 inches from tip to top I don't know why it came out looking like a monster. My photo editing skills are worse that my photo taking skills.

Three favorite

The Ponderosa pine was styled at a Chase Rosade workshop (befor and after pictures)
The cork back elm was grown from a root cutting and was just put in its pot.
The crab apple was purchased a few years ago. It had only a few leaves and was in a cracked 3 inch pot. I put it in a 6 inch clay pot and buried the pot in my growing bed. This is the first year it leafed out and flowered.

Its seven inch tall. I just put it in its pot and am waiting for it to fill out before styling.

Here are a few of mine,
#1 Eastern Red Cedar
#2 White Poplar
#3 Boxwood
These are by no means my most favorite, just with the weather the way its been here, I've not been able to bring out my indoor trees. :(

TreeKiller64,
Did you collect the red cedar? There are tons here in Missouri and they grow like crazy here.

SK,
(TreeKiller64,
Did you collect the red cedar? There are tons here in Missouri and they grow like crazy here. )
Yes I did, its not the best, the species has it's down sides, but like you there are tons of them around.
The tree, (and the others) were collected where I work. (I Love Native Species), (Zone5a USDA) This one was approx. 10' tall when collected. (about 10 yrs ago).
I'm still refining the juniper and will for some time. I was about to bring out some of my other trees today, (weather providing) and will put my all-time favorites "3" soon. Some of which will I know coincide with another thread on this site (When is a bonsai "junk"?) and prob cause a stir within this site on my feelings about Bonsai and what I've learned.
But yes, I did collect this one (as the others, one way or the other).
Thanks for your questions, if you have anymore, ASK.
And for all, you can call me Kevin J
Sincerely,
KJ

With one exception,a purple leafed flowering plum,my favorite trees change from month to month,as they are usually the partially styled trees,I find most enjoyable to shape and train.
