Well, looking at this now, almost certain of its Glossy Buckthornedness, Other Deciduous is a good place to start its own thread.

What's the purpose of that soil decoration? I mean the fragments.

Maybe a lil moisture retention.
I think I had no where else to put it.

I have some tree's in too wet soil (because i wanted to lower the collection risks and i was a noob), is there an method to make it more drainyier without repotting? (maybe by putting random fragments in the soil perhaps :), or should i do a slip-repot and put rocks on the bottom?

Don't know that there's much you can do now except water less.

Or repot if they're tuffins!

@Anthony
Thought of you when I found this branch. Seems one of those special mutations. The way it forks like a 2 headed snake. The other branches have not done this. Interesting.

Thoughts?

Anthony is a two headed snake? Lol. Him and Kha!
Sorce. I take back what I said about collecting unknown species. Well at least in this instance! You pulled one out of your um... nether regions with this one. Nice base. Plans on losing a trunk or keeping both?
Nice work brother!

I want to get the forked one down to where it connects. It'll be in the back. Trouble is, I gotta get a bud below there on it first, because though fused, I think I will lose some base if that one dies.

There's a couple nice old branch spots right there where I should get a bud soon. It would Probly bud there if I chopped it too, but I want to fill the pot with roots till mid summer, then maybe, maybe....saw it there.

If this thing throws those snake branches, it's could be a wicked broom.
I don't think it's too well suited for it, but I'm not too suited for regularisms, following rules, etc., etc.,

I collected a red maple last year and it threw some weird growth. I think when trees are in survival mode they just push whatever grow they can. Once it has grown a couple of years and realize it is not going to die the growth should settle down and become more orderly.

Rhamnus frangula, also known as Alder Buckthorn. Not quite as invasive as its cousin the European Buckthorn (Rhamnus cathartica), but still a non-native plant that you shouldn't let fruit. They are hard to work as bonsai as they throw these very long shoots and when you cut down to 1-2 leaves, the twig will die. They are however very hardy, can't kill em!

Testin out!

Before20150628_060120.jpg

Got about 2.5-3ft shoots. They started branching (normally) about 2 weeks ago. And what do you know, the only one not in "Flowering" is.......
20150628_061133.jpg
I saw one flowering on A fishing trip the other day. Kind of excited to see this one busy!

And after.20150628_062112.jpg

I left those 3 going, as I hope to build off of them in the future. I cut back to 2 leaves on all the branches on the back trunk, to see if I can get it to bud lower.

Details to follow.

The back trunk here is on the left, the lowest bud is that small one coming straight at you with the Holy leaves.

20150628_062134.jpg

I need to get a bud on the left lower than the one front and center. Then I can keep that back part alive, get some back branching, and Ditch that trunk.

I did cut everything above those keepers on the working trunk too.
Cropped out mostly, the right is the keeper trunk.

And I did this without harming my buddy.20150628_062432.jpg
