Here is another of the trees I rescued after a friend passed away. No water for six months and now has been cared for about two years. I like the deadwood but when looking from side number one I would like to shorten the tree and need to do something with the main branch on the right side. It is too straight and no taper in my opinion. I know that I would do a chop down and the base and grow a new branch but I was trying to think of a better way, like maybe chopping at the first knuckle and trying some carving to work some taper in. Is that a possibility? Ideas or opinions? Thanks Jamie

This one isn't as nice as the other, the one we liked before you chopped it ! I mean the crown.

But it is still worth growing into. If you can fix the low part, I like the canopy you have there.

I'd ditch those 2 branches at the base, so more stuff will grow lower by that other new shoot. This should even you out.

I really like the 2 trunks.

I, on the other hand, would get rid of ALL of the taller trunk.

I like that too.

If the future allows. It seems we will never realize a good taper in that nice curvy trunk. Well I guess you can with work.

But they compliment each other Pretty nice now.

I do like this one.

And just keep the 2 smaller shoots/branches from the base? Grow all new branching from the base? My first thought was the same as yours but then realized there is no live foliage on the deadwood trunk.

Oh. Couldn't tell from the pic whether the skinniest trunk was dead or the crooked one was. I take it it's the crooked one?

That makes this tree not so enticing to me, and I -- for one -- wouldn't bother with it.

Sorry.
