Yeah, that's pretty big and your hand is awfully close. Do you know what kind of spider it is?

Plus your thumbnail looks like mine! Freshly chewed. No nail clippers.

Very toxic venom by the way John.
While you probably would not want to get bitten by it, this particular one is not dangerous to humans, venom-wise. There is a spider in Brazil called the wandering banana spider that is one of the most toxic spiders in the world, it looks nothing like this one.

NOT! It is one of the Orb garden spiders. Very common in late summer and fall at least in the Eastern USA.

One of my favorite critters (except when I stumble through a web in the early morning). They are NOT poisonous.

Jesus, it ain't a dangerous banana spider. It's a golden silk orb spider, like Jim said. They're everywhere in the east and mid-Atlantic states and the species here are harmless. The problem species are in Central and South America.

We've had a pretty "spidery" summer this year. I've been noticing spiders and spider webs for quite some time around my house. I've had several of these (and garden spiders [argiope aurantia]--which can be bigger than this one) in my backyard for months, one in my big oak bonsai, catching all kind of crummy tree eating bugs.

All spiders are poisonous. It's a matter of degree. These two species are dangerous AT ALL. Bites aren't any worse that a bee sting.

Calm down everyone, my mistake. I was told years ago when I lived in South Florida they weren't aggressive but they had venom that was quite toxic. I get them all around my house and yard along with black widows, brown recluse, wolf spiders and scorpions. I just ignore them. I gracefully bail out of this thread.
