A small collected rmj developing. As much as anything testing my capability to keep trees healthy in small pots, year two in the little pot and all is well. I may move it up a size to develop quicker or leave it in a small pot and see what happens, either way its been easy to care for and fun so far.IMG_20150820_094449.jpg IMG_20150820_094512.jpg IMG_20150820_094533.jpg View attachment 80354

Very nice!

Where was this sourced?
Is the other from the same place?
Looks like great potential!

They were close together but this one was on the edge of cattle grazing pasture land, the other just uphill in a rocky ravine.

I guess I better be careful not to prune my RMJ too aggressively. It is totally covered in adult foliage. I would like to keep it that way if I can and I have a feeling that's going to be a challenge. That leads me to my question. When you collected it, did it have adult foliage?

hi Vin, I don't remember, I can tell you it was in a raised bed with way too much shade for a couple years prior to the pot and was very weak from that. The juvi could be from that or pruning or it started with it.

Sweet, I can see there is a lot of it!
So far I haven't had much trouble with juvi on my rmjs but I have been working them slowly, I'm also in one of the sunniest spots in the country with a yard open to the sky, I think that helps a lot. A tree like that I would probably try an initial styling with as little foliage removed as possible while allowing light to get inside the tree then study it and whittle down the excess over time.
Looks like a good tree hiding in there.
