Checked out the Vendors at the MBS show today at the Chicago Botanical Garden.

Picked up a Ulmus Parvifolia 'Hokkaido'.

May need a ground layer.
Broke a branch.
Nice top structure.
Base of the Trunk is 1/2"ish.

I like it. Iron beaver I'd estimate it's value somewhere between 25.99 and 26.01.

Very cool trees. I've passed on them a couple times. Yeah they are brittle. Can you say clip and grow. Heard tales that vigorous watering can break them. They get vicious corky bark.
Nice tree. Now I'm getting one for sure.

That's an idea! I can keep this sticker, or lesser ones, and use them all the time!

Like when I get a 3k Golden Arrow tree!

Good luck making a tree which you can hide behind a leaf of the same species with this one!

It is too cool you remembered that!

How well do they ramify?

I'm worried about how small the twigs will be when this gets proper.
Looks like one of those you gotta be all over all the time.

Been saving that penny for just such an occasion?

I've seen small leaves, I think even these before, but not in a million years did I think that they were sooooooo small. Like those o's.
Dirty ass penny! I think they found it on the diamond!

This is not one you have?
Rats, I thought you could share some experience.
Well, I got 3 cuttings now! If they root......you know this came from Mi. I'll send it back!

Didn't see this.
They're elms. Treat them just like all other elms. Just don't let it fall 3 stories. It would probably not come through a fall as well as some of the others. Brittle. As you know well enough by now.
Fragile yet tough.

Woops, couldn't read the tag on a small screen! I think that's a good price. There is a limit to how many "raffles" one can win.

Think I might break another!
Just kidding.

If this survives winter....
It's gonna be fun!20150823_100326.jpg

You can see that real low bud, in the black, under that callous roll....

Looks like it kinda healed over here, a problem to address, hence the possible ground layer.

All that black could be dead.
