So I've got a bunch of successful cuttings from my bougie (I think it's a pink pixie, the leaves are small and has very few thorns. It hasn't flowered yet so I haven't seen the bracts for myself), and I have been starting to think about what to do with them next year.
  1. An exposed root cascade style. Will a bougies roots develop enough to support it's own weight? Just a nice twisted mass of rooty goodness with a colour explosion on the end.
  2. Can the smaller whippier cuttings be used to form a grafted trunk? Will they fuse readily?
  3. How fast do these guys thicken up otherwise in an appropriately sized grow box? Plant it in good soil and fertilize the heck out of it.

As an aside, how much bend could I expect to put into a dead straight trunk that is about one inch or so in diameter? I figure I might have to use a bending clamp or clamps.

They graft bougainvillea. And other techniques as well. Making a variety of colors on one tree. You may find this book interesting enough to purchase it.

I'm sure you can do a number of things if you put your mind to it. My Pink Pixie...

A tiny cutting of my own...a cherry blossom bougainvillea. (Double blooming)

It's bloom...it has long stems it hangs from. So going to train this tiny thing into a cascade. Think it might have a great look to it.
