It is one of the first few trees I bought in 2005 when I started my bonsai hobby. It was in 1 gallon pot, and was transplanted to the current plastic pot in 5/2006. I let it stay in this pot for 3 years. At one time, I thought it died because of iron deficiency. Last year it tried to come back with few bracts. Today I decided to transplant it with my favorite soil content: turface, pumice and pine bark with ratio 1:2:1. The first branch is needed some secondary branches closed to the trunk. I will do a trick to get those branches in December this year. Bonhe
p/s: its trunk base is 1.5" diameter and its height is 14".

I love boogs.

I picked up a five gallon today at Lowe's for $3.75 on clearance. I will post some pics as soon as I can.

bougainvillea grafting

I'm bringing back this old thread because I'm a dummy and can't figure out how to start a new one.

I've had a nice little "pink pixie" for 8 years. It is healthy and flowers nicely. In my cold climate here in Central NY I have to grow it under lights all winter and outdoors in the short summer, June-August. Unfortunately I broke an important lower branch due to a botched wiring job - very brittle branches! :(

The good news is that I was left with a 1 inch long 'stump' which quickly budded out with new leaves. I will be very careful growing out the new replacement branch.

Question concerns grafting possibilities. I have never grafted anything. But could I take any branches from the back of the tree and graft onto weak areas? When is the best season to do this? (knowing I live in a cold region) Should any leaves be removed from the donor branch? How long might the process take? Any experienced helpers advice is appreciated.

Some might suggest that I simply be patient and develop the new growth on the original stump and leave well-enough alone. I'm OK with that - just curious.
