I stumbled upon this "Champion Live Oak" on a family trip in Leakey, Texas this weekend. I have lived in Texas all my life and have seen thousands of majestic oaks. This is the king of them all. Pictures can't possibly do it justice. It was on private property so I couldn't get any better shots. Unbelievable structure, base, bark etc...really no words will do.

You just have to love these ancient specimens that survive century upon century of wind, drought, flooding, lightening, etc...inspiration is right!

This tree was named the Champion Live Oak in Texas in 1966. At that time, it was found to have an 11 foot diameter trunk that was 35 feet in circumference. It was 44 feet tall and measured 89 feet across the crown. It was 1000 years old at that time. I have no idea how big it is now. This tree is near Port Aransas, Texas.
