The more trees the merrier.

An image from 2015. Leafless and dormant at this time. Funny piece of trivia is that one of the flowers had fallen off after being there long enough, so for the photograph I placed it on for balance and a better picture. :D

What's up with the wrinkly bed sheet!?

Preying mantis nest on a trident
....supposed to be good luck they can hatch hundreds of baby mantis'!
I get a lot of little mantises, too! Last year I took a tree to Knoxville to display at their show. In the car, I noticed I had a 1 inch long mantis on the tree. He stayed on the tree all weekend, and I brought him back home!

This was the tree:

He may still be on it in the picture!

Sorry for the wrinkly sheets behind the display. The Atlanta Bonsai Society operates on a shoestring budget. The wrinkles were not as noticeable in personas they appear in the photos. I will see if we can do something about it this year. I agree it detracts from the display.

Mantis are savages ..bug eating machines , aphids, mites when their young. Then they get the bigger bugs when they mature. For this I welcome them in my garden.20160220_024827_001.jpggraft on the quince ,had a really open area Looks pretty healthy .

You forgot to post a tree, Vance!

No, that one is a Green Atlas Cedar. I let it grow out a bit then cut it back. (Rather than pinching.)

Here's a project underway: JBP about 3 years out of the field. It's had two "half bare root" repots, so it's now rid of all the old field soil and is growing in Clay King bonsai soil.

Two of three grafts have taken, I'm chasing foliage back towards the trunk, carving back on chopped branches, etc.

It's still very much in the "ugly duckling" stage!

You're right I forgot my picture. Actually I tried to post one but the system would not let me do it from a file on my hard drive. This is a Mugo (surprise surprise) that I started working on in 1998. I have some more pictures of it but I have to reformat them or the forum wont take them.

That tree is pretty tight for an Atlas Cedar. I knew the trunk did not look right but it has been so long since I have had may hands on a true Cedar I did not at first recognize the trunk.. The following Mugo is another in the string of the same Mugo I posted earlier.

Same tree in 1992. I am starting to see and understand just how stylistically conflicted it really is, but it is progressing.
