I've been doing root work and repotting. Some will require pruning. Perhaps today, I'll get some more work done. Next week it's time for cleaning up the yard again.

Shimpaku is new last year. Seems to just barely be waking up...none of my buds are doing much on my wisteria or Virginia Creeper...the Kojo No Mai last season buds burst earlier than the rest. They are swelling...but same old same old. It's how they are. But the Satsuki Azalea is also new...the buds seem...larger than when I put it to rest late fall.

Crazy mild winter in Ohio. I'm good with it. 60 and even hit 70 last week Cooked steaks on the grill Christmas Eve.
Buds swelling and popping outa the ground here. 60 then 14 deg F off and on... has to be confusing things.
Forced a clip from my Miss Kim Lilac(I think( just to be sure that's what it is. and to see some early color. I'm ready!

Some of our trees are starting to leaf out here, such as my black cherry (Prunus serotina) in the front yard, but most of the maples, sweet gum and others are not quite there yet. The sycamore, bald cypress and Crape Myrtle often wait until mid to late March to leaf out here, for some reason.

My FL red maple pre-bonsai and live oak are still dormant as well. The next good rain followed by a few days in the 80s will do it. I'm enjoying the last bit of cool/chilly weather before the "eternal FL summer" sets in.

As for my temperate trees from up north, it will be spring when I decide they are good and ready!

Darlene,

darn, darn, we had to stop repotting as night temperatures [ 69 /70 deg.F ] are too cold for the Tamarinds and sea side trees.
It will probably stay this way for March as well.

The winds are - as we say - Kite Flying Season - and humidity is hitting 50's % so watering is now back to three times a day.

Boy are we suffering. This year's winter is brutal:):):):rolleyes:

Drought measures are coming up, no more hoses and only watering cans, until May/June.

Just to let you know the North Island land is mildly breezy, low in sea blast and we dug a large Mimosa pudica, trunk is close to
1" but survival rates are not always high. Still it was almost killed by the metal head of a weed wacker.
Will be back there by Wednesday for more land clearing.

Next time I will let you know about the piece on the Eastern seacoast at Mayaro.
Your Bonsai friend in the Hot Humid Tropics - not :p
Anthony [ it is already cold and breezy tonight - oh groan ]

Looks like it's maybe time to bring my trees into the sun on Monday. The month outlook seems to show an early spring. My trees have been in total darkness in the deep cold frame for about three months now.
You can look in the photo the whole month is 50 or above with only one freezing night ,starting this Monday .

Sick! I had to go look at mine again!
Same business!

Last week, it was still reading a below freezing spell at the end of March.
Now....no more!

I hope they're right!

Here's mine. Hope that will be the last freeze for this spring. Probably not, but you know; faith, trust and a lil' bit of fairy dust.

Before you start thinking the Netherlands is a place on the South Pole, it's in Celsius, not Fahrenheit ;)

Still goin get a lil cold.

Mine are too... One or two frosts won't bother them a bit. I am pretty certain it won't stay cold long enough here to have the soil freeze again this year. Looking at the long range and getting tired of hauling water by hand I am thinking it is safe enough to turn on the hose(s) again.
