I like the left one, looks as if it will sit nice in there, the JJ Abrahms pot looks like it is not as wide and I think the two tone wider one would work well with your tree.
To me at least.

Pot on the left - color coordinated. Pot on the right - color contrast.
I know very little about root size, shape, height, width, etc., suitability. To my gut, left is more pleasing.

I definitely wouldn't layer that tree. Or at least not as low as you're suggesting.
I'd cut reduce it a little, but not much.

Lance my first impression is, it looks a bit lost in that pot. Maybe the petite looking blue one would've suited it better :)
Btw.... love the look of that Big Butt Bottle...:p
