Dave, you need to start a study group:

"Drop Branch Literatis R Us"!
I know, right? Fwiw, while these aren't true literati, they are very literatish;)...and there's something about a sinous trunk line and a dropped branch that just sings to me.

Really quality work....way beyond where I'm at!! I'm working at it, but the entire experience is a pleasing one. Despite my relative in-experience.
Great looking trees and I, for one, can't get enough of your drop-branch....aaahhh.....you have nice bonsai....hehehee....
Liked the seatbelt shot!:D:D

Just keep pluggin away. I've been working on both of these for the better part of a decade. They both came with a great trunk line and not much else...I think me and the trees have gotten a lot better over the years;).

Totally Qualified!

Hey Dave....."drop branch Dave!"
That moss ball, right in front of the live vein as it hits the soil,
It bugs the shit out of me.
Any chance of getting something greener(different) and flatter there?
Or is it hiding something?

It's just been poppin out at me,
Thought you should know.

Didn't do much today, mostly some light thinning. I'm tempted to heavily prune and wire this one but it's already a bit weak. I don't want to weaken it further so it just had a very light groom. Hopefully, late this summer, I'll be able to cut it back and wire it out again.

Another tree, another dropped branch...

You're good at those, Dave!

Have u ever thought about bringing the main branch and all of the foliage back over to the left hand side with this tree? Reason why I ask, is that bringing or dropping a branch down as you have done greatly increases the compact feel of the tree. Also, what I how found to be quite useful in aiding this compact feel is breaking up very long lines. What happens visually when one looks at a tree that has a very long line such as this trunk does is that it has a tendency because there is so much of it, to grab the viewer's eye and attention, making them spend most of their viewing time there. The foliage is just an after thought.

I understand the tree is weak, but this along with a slight tilt backward with the main trunk, might be something to consider?
