Well, I found out it is like the commercial for Tootsie Pops: "How many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop? Let's see..1..2..3..crunch.." I was able to keep manually bending the branch for just a few days before I grew tired of it.

Lst training is actually when you bend down the main shoot, this diverts growth hormones, plus gives more sunlite creating multiple leaders = more budding sites

LOL!!! I just remembered... Back when u was in college, my sophmore year I lived off campus in an apartment. There were external stairs built on to thus old house, and my roommate and I shared this funky two bedroom apartment. Anyway, there was s small landing, and I kept two bonsai there: Japanese maples.
Well, this was in the '70's, so you can imagine that someone thought my J. Maples was weed! It got stolen! I bet they were bummed when they smoked the maple leaves!
