Here is the tree as it appeared out in nature. The wind had knocked it over many years ago.

It come home with a very good rootball in a very small space.

Repotting came the next year, and the year after that was this initial styling. Here is the before and after.

Here it is in spring 2015.

In 2015 I noticed the bark beginning to buckle. This spring, 2016, that bark had flaked off enough to reveal some deadwood.

I began to use a chisel to lift the bark that was obviously coming off. The proceeded to use the chisel to discover the live vein.

This was all that was deadwood. I'll use my dremel along the grain of the wood to eliminate the tool marks. As the deadwood dries and the grains crack it will be easier to look at!!

Here is the tree at this point.

Wow that is an amazing specimen! If left alone it would have turned into a natural raft style. I'm assuming that you're going with a slant style, but a windswept would be suiting too. Best of luck on this beautiful spruce

I really like the thick trunk base the original trunk creates. That and the natural taper really balances the slant of the main trunk.

How have you restrained yourself from cutting off that little appendix hanging over the pot edge? :) Amazing tree!
