Osmocote can be a little harsh. It's heat activated so you want to be careful to not load up on it too quickly. Ramp up the dosage gradually, observe for any signs of fertilizer burn. If the tree seems ok, add some more. Taper off the Osmocote some once the weather gets to summer type temperatures. Pick up the slack with liquid ferts at that point. I use an organic feed from Bonsai West that's a little less harsh than Osmocote, but it smells like my kids diaper! Some times I think he needs to be changed, but it's just the fert stink.

And no....nobody in the house is impressed with the smell!!!:eek::oops::(:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

Hopefully this all will help you out some!!:D

I have some seaweed fert that is downright rank smelling but the trees like it. But damn its stank. Not like a dirty diaper, its worse IMO. Like suuupppeeerrr strong vitamins. Organic ferts usualy stink but I wont use anything else...

So here it is, after it's last hair cut for now.
Also it is back inside (last week it was going back and forth outside/inside during the day/night) because today we had in the 40's and tomorrow will be the same mess, even the serissa it's back inside as you could see on the picture.
Monday, hopefully for good this time, they'll be back outside.
Last point: the front is marked with an X on the pot and grace to the mirror we could see the back in the same time ;)

A quick up-date as of this evening.

For the 1st time this year we finally had 2 nice straight days and my BRT was able to stay outside at night.
Yesterday very hot (more than 90), sunny and humid and today in the 80's, mostly cover, ending with a nice straight heavy thunderstorm shower.

Great pics Alain. I was planning on attending the BSF convention until I found out I was going to have to work, so my next plan was to head up to Palm City and look at BRTs. Alas, foiled again.... bad weather and they moved up my work time.

I'll have to make a trip to Palm City for a BRT next week.

I'm sure you won't regret it!
It's incredible how fast mine grow here, I can't even imagine the speed in Ft Lauderdale, you will spend your summer pruning it! :)
Here is mine when it is not all tuck for the the night (as they close their leaves to sleep tight):

And it's full of new shoots everywhere:

After not even one week of hot weather!

Wow! It's beautiful.
I can't wait, I'm pretty excited about getting one.
I have a Premna that is a fast grower too, even though he's slowed down a touch, but my Barbados Cherry is growing like a weed here. Same with my Zulkova, just wish the trunk would get a little bigger.
Has this BRT suggested a style to you yet?

Thanks!

I think it will be just a formal upright with pads of foliage like a tree in the African savanna (I put a picture somewhere up in the thread and specified that the elephants on the pic won't be included).

But in fact I keep looking at an acacia just in front of our deck when I'm outside and I would like to try to get this kind of branches and foliage:

(bad picture, we - my wife - are in a hurry to go for our Sat morning trip to the Starbucks ;))

Oh yeah, you did happen to say that. That's more or less the style I'm looking for when I get one, of course the tree may decide something different.

Well seems to me that in a general way BRT don't really want a different style :)

Well that one went totally over my head, listen for the giant schwossing sound...
I guess that's cause I'm a packers fan (and shareholder!) :)
No hard feelings, just didn't see it coming.

All good. :). I'm not here to piss anyone off to much knowledge to be spread and I liked packers with farve as I did San Fran with young but now that I have my home team back I can't be a trader. :). And don't worry we all have those days.
