I did some damage control today. Since all the upper wood was dead, and was where I saw all the holes, I cut it off as low as possible. I inspected the rest of the tree very well and feel pretty confident that I removed all the afflicted areas. It was not fun, but it needed to be done. I had planned on removing it all anyway so I can't complain too much. Next step will be to take it to the next club meeting where I can get some practice carving it down to live tissue. I will update with some pics later on when I get them uploaded and re-sized.

It was a tough decision I am sure, but the borers don't seem to have done TOO much damage... I think you have a lot left to work with... Should be a real beauty one day!

These lousy bastards are back again this year. I noticed some browning foliage this week and assumed it was the heat and picked up my watering. I noticed it was only my 3 BC that were affected...the original tree from this thread (very minimal) as well as the other 2 that showed no signs of damage last year.

All my other trees are perfectly healthy so I'm assuming it has to be something specifically prone to BC. I also noticed some white webbing that I don't remember seeing last year.

I will be stopping by a landscaping store tomorrow to see if I can find something specifically for boring insects. I'm very worried that I may lose them. The foliage declined FAST. I'll update if I can find something that works and see some improvement in the coming weeks.
