@sorce,

I read and understand and am with you Brudder Mahn !!!!

Why do I get the idea that on our side I would have been visiting you, in a home made beautifully of wattle and daub, with a thatched roof. Dreadlocks and
no clothes, high in the Northern Range [ by the way this is how real/genuine Rastafari live - peaceful folk - no salt - no meat not just Dreadlocks [fashion phonies] ]

Anyhow, seeds - hand-made clay pots, aged compost, Fine Art training, drawings and everything in the backyard behind a bamboo hedge.
Time has no meaning, and just a few friends to sit with, laugh, white tea or a Carib [ a beer is a Carib ] and enjoying trees.

Going to see an amazing Tamarind with amazing bark and amazingly longggggggggggg pods.
Will send images. [ If it does not rain - :) ]

Craftsman to High Art. Yeah!!!!

Trees grown like oil paintings - Seeds [ sketches ] to Design [ Painting ] and as Sifu [ Adair ] says - never finished - dynamic - change every 10 years
or so, more sketches and more Designs.

Yes, we have access to trees from Miami Tropical [ we do have importers ] have 2 or 3 at $500.00 or so US, so we can purchase.
BUT there has be something very special.

As you hit 45 / 50 [ mid-life - crisis ] one should have achievements to look back on., Protects and invigorates.
Good Day
Anthony

* Man you should see the Tamarind airlayer - came with just the white no roots. End of July prune for first training.

Welcome to the world of Fine Art - through Horticulture

Craftsman
Artist
Maintainer
Owner

As someone on IBC once said - Bonsai are the playthings of the very rich.

I have watched and read Kokufu references where the owner is not the grower / maintainer.
High class gardener.
Works in Japan - their mindset.

Not so in the West - we are very individual.

Those who can, do, those who can't teach, and those who can't create, maintain.
Those who show, need not do.

BUT why the rudeness / arguments folks ------- If you like growing trees, just sit and chat.
Pass on ideas, or just enjoy each other.
I enjoy Sorce, Go-gerah, Fred, George, Al, Vance, Stacy, Darlene, Thumbless, Mr Dutchman [ names jumped out my head Tent...] Our Costa Rican, Tenth floor,
Madam Giant Hackberry [ hee hee just remembered Judy ] ..............................................
AND Sifu.

Yes, Vance, I did an experiment yesterday. I deliberately used up all my pocket money at TGY Fridays and then went to a favourite store and just looked. First time, weird feeling, like having no hands.
Didn't like it.
I choose not to purchase, not the other way.

Glad I learnt to grow seeds and enjoy the stages.
Bonsai for us is almost a zero cost situation.

Sorce, is interesting, creative in speech and problems of tree placements. We should get him a proper yard, and let him just grow trees.
Wish it were possible to donate a lot [ 50' x 100' ] to him, off of this 10 acre estate.
Sorce and 300 trees.
Good Day

Here is my $25 dollar tree... 3 1/2 years ago it had a trunk of a 3/4 inch diameter, today 5 inches.

My $9 Home Depot Mallsai Ficus Specials... times eleven of them. In one expensive pot however!

$8 dollar Home Depot Gensing Ficus...

I have trees tons of trees I have spent under $30 dollars on.
I also have trees I have spend hundreds of dollars on, as well as thousands.

Have learned way more on the under 30 dollar trees than I have on anything above.
The sad part is that the often expensive trees aren't really that much better... usually just bigger.
Which for some reason really matters here in the states?
Perhaps compensation for lack in other areas?

The price of anything depends upon supply and demand. Sellers are free to set whatever price they want. If it's too high, no one will buy it. Buyers are free to pay whatever price they wish to aquire something. If the price they are willing to pay is below what the seller is willing to take, then no sale occurs.

Prices are set when buyers and sellers meet at a mutually acceptable price.

I'm a real estate agent, and as a part of that is helping buyers and sellers agree upon the price. Each parcel of land is unique. No two are exactly alike. Oh, they can be very similiar, but each is unique.

Bonsai are the same way. No two are exactly the same!

In the end, each person in the transaction of purchase and sale has to be satisfied. It is a fact of life some people have more money to spend on a hobby than others. As long as whoever is spending the money is happy with the transaction, then all is well. One would hope that no one is spending rent or food money on bonsai.

This has nothing to do with the Phases (other than Aquisition), but I'd like to close the discussion of the costs of our hobby, and redirect it towards the knowledge needed to perform each of the phases.

Thank god! Thus thread was getting off topic for the most part.

This is somewhat inspirational, thank you :)
